Veteran snatches National League Masters title

23rd August, Singapore: Seasoned campaigner and veteran, Jack Wong of Changi Beach Club, snatched the 4th National League Masters title in the final game of the 12-game finals at Superbowl SAFRA Mount Faber on Sunday.

Hairon Awang of Marine Bowl opened account with a sizzling 256 with ex-national, Helmi Chew of Superbowl in a close second. Hairon rolled another good game of 223 to hold the lead after the second game but found the pace too hot to handle as Helmi surged into the lead.

Two high games of 268 and 258 from Chew saw the leader stretched his lead to 72 by the fifth game but a poor 167 allowed Hairon to close the gape to just 16 pins at the halfway mark.

 

Chew rebounded with another superb 256 to kick away from Hairon with Gan Ju-Yen of Superbowl closing in on the leading duo. Gan and Chew shared the lead after ninth game and the pair traded the lead over the next two games.Jack Wong’s 267 in the 11th game allowed the veteran to stake his claim on the title while only 18 pins separated Chew and Gan. But Wong prevailed with a stronger game of 211 in the final game to take a well deserved victory with 2602.

Gan settled for second with 2597 while Chew took third spot with 2593. Paiman Dali of Superbowl stormed home to take fourth spot with 2551 ahead of Hairon fifth with 2546.

The second round of the 4th National League ended the 34 weeks on August 16 with NTUC emerging as overall champion with 481 points and a total pinfalls with handicap of 78058.

Changi Beach Club (Team Martell) finished second overall with 479 points while Marine Bowl took third spot with 457 points. National kegler, Gina Lim was the only female in the finals and finished 35th while Basil Ng was the only youth finishing 47th position.
