Two Singaporeans make cut for finals

20th March, Kuwait: Two Singapore national bowlers, Jason Yeong-Nathan and Remy Ong made the finals of the 8th Kuwait Open 2011 at the end of the third block completed at Cozmo Bowling Centre on Sunday.  Jason Yeong-Nathan made the Round 3 finals after finishing 15th with 3887 while Remy Ong squeezed into Round 2 in 33rd position. SHayna Ng and Geraldine Ng missed the cut in 39th and 42nd positions respectively.

Jason Yeong-Nathan, who was one place behind team-mate, Shayna Ng in 23rd position after the second block, produced a splendid show when he reeled in 222, 192, 246, 248, 202 and 246 to end his third block with an 18-game tally of 3887.

His effort placed him third in Squad C behind leader Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong and second-placed Mohammed Janahi of Bahrain. But crucially, Jason moved up to 15th position to earn a place in the Round 3 finals.

  Remy Ong, who was sitting on the edge of the final cut position of 34, had no qualifers overtaking him from the final squad to make the cut in 33rd position with 3743. But Ong would have to battle it out first in Round 2 finals.Shayna Ng was placed 22nd, one spot above Jason, found the going in her final block to post only 1158 series. Her total of 3698 failed to earn her a place even in the position 23 t0 34 qualifying bracket.

Geraldine Ng, who was in 6th position overnight, hauled herself up to 39th but missed the cut by 43 pins.

Meanwhile, the top 6 qualifiers who will automatically proceed to Round 5 finals, all came from the strongest Squad A. Martin Larsen of Sweden topped the field with 4184 followed by England's Dominic Barrett in second with 4104.

  

American pro, Sean Rash of USA took third spot with 4095 followed by another PBA pro, Jason Belmonte of Australia in fourth. Chris Loschetter of USA and Stuart Williams of England completed the top 6.

Second perfect gamer and Guangzhou Asian Games two silver medalist, Mohammed Al Rageebah earned the highest ranked Kuwaiti to take up the last and seventh position for Round 5.

Qualifiers from positions 23 to 34 plus the four Kuwaitis will contest the first final of Monday, March 21 over 6 games at 10.00am.
