Team Singapore in with a chance

7th July, Hong Kong: Singapore's trio of Cherie Tan, Jasmine Yeong-Nathan and Jazreel Tan are amongst the leaders after the first block of 3 games of the Women's Trios event of the 20th Asian Tenpin Bowling Championship was completed.  A decent start by the Singapore trio of Cherie Tan, Jasmine Yeong-Nathan and Jazreel Tan put them in fifth with a 595 opening game as China sprang a surprise to lead the field with 651 from Malaysia in second.

Disaster struck for Cherie Tan when she shot a lowly 147 but fortunately her team-mates, Jasmine and Jazreel were aboe to cover Tan with 214 and 225 respectively. Despite a strong finish in the final with a superb 690, other teams also posted high scores leaving the Singaporeans in fifth spot on a total of 1871.

The mighty Koreans rebounded after a poor showing on Day 2 to finish 1-2 in the first block. Choi Jin-A, Hwang Sun-Ok and Kim Yeau-Jin topped the block with 1963 smashing the 3-game record of 1928 set by Japan in the 2002 championship.

The other trio of Gang Hye-Eun, Jeon Un-Hee and Gye Min-Young gave Korea a 1-2 finish when they stormed home with 688 in the third game to snatch second place with 1940, 23 pins away. Chinese Taipei only managed 598 dropping to third with 1925.

The second team of Bernice Lim, Sabrina Lim and Amanda Ng managed only 11th place finish on a team total of 1766. After 15 games contested in the Singles, Doubles and first block of Trios, the Koreans occupy the top 4 positions in the All Events standings. Perfect gamer, Jeon Eun-Hee topped the table with 3420 followed by Choi Jin-A, Kim Yeau-Jin and Hwang Sun-Ok from second to fourth.

Jasmine and Jazreel are currently seventh and ninth with 3278 and 3223 and amongst the top 16 who will make the cut for the Masters finals.
