Spirit high despite no show
31st July, Las Vegas: The spirit of Team Singapore remained high despite having nothing to show thus far at the World Women's Championship 2009 after three events contested. Singapore may be down after three events of the World Women's Championship 2009 without any showing so far over four days at the Cashman Center but their spirit remains high.
Cherie Tan, who was the best performer so far where she finished 20th in the opening event teamed up with Jasmine Yeong-Nathan and Jazreel Tan for the Trios event on Thursday.
Cherie shot 188, 187 and 175 for a lowly 550 series over the short oil pattern followed by Jazreel's 619 but the highest scorer was Jasmine Yeong-Nathan with 647 giving the trio 1816 in the first block. USA's Carolyn Dorin-Ballard, Stefanie Nationa and Liz Johnson led the first block with 1942.
The second trio of Geraldine Ng (523), Bernice Lim (593) and Shayna Ng (646) posted teams lines of 605, 619 and 538 for a 3-game total of 1762 in which Colombia topped the squad with 1960 for the overall lead when the two squads' scores were combined.
The second trio of Geraldine-Bernice-Shayna downed 1704 in the second block on Friday for a 6-game total of 3466 making not much headway while their compatriots, Cherie-Jasmine-Jazreel totaled 3713.
Chinese Taipei surprised the field by topping the squad with 3798. Overnight Squad 1 leader, USA ended the Squad 1 second block atop with a total of 3858 and remained pole to advance into the finals.
The first Singapore trio finished 12th overall while the second trio took 36th position as Chinese Taipei made the finals in second with 3798. Denmark finished third with 3785 and the final spot was snatched up by Japan with 3767.
Chinese Taipei's Tsai Hsin-Yi, Yang Hao-Ting and Tang Ya-Chun went on to upstaged the American PBA pros, 660-602 in the title match to clinch their first gold medal in the championship series since 2005 in Alborg, Denmark.
The Team of 5 will be bowled over two blocks of 3 games on Saturday with the first block on short oil pattern and the second in medium oil pattern. The top 4 teams will advance into the stepladder finals the same day.
