Singapore Bowling Grand Awards Night 2016

12th February, Singapore: World Champion, Shayna Ng and Bowling World Open champion, Joey Yeo were awarded Bowler of the Year and Youth Bowler of the Year respectively at the SingaporeBowling Grand Awards Night 2016 on Friday.

John Donne said famously, “No man is an island.” So is an organization. SingaporeBowling had a tremendous year in 2015, and the time has come to recognize the contributions of those who were an integral cog in the well-oiled machinery that brought us to such lofty heights last year.

Whether you were part of the national team, doing our nation proud, or you were a sponsor helping the sport of bowling achieve those loftier ambitions, or even if you were part of our backend staff, SingaporeBowling would like to tip our hat and give you our thanks.

Royal China at Raffles Hotel played host to SingaporeBowling and its distinguished guests; the ambience and food fitting the festive mood of Lunar New Year as we wished sponsors, affiliates and friends a happy Chinese New Year.

Mrs Jessie Phua, President of SingaporeBowling, took to the stage after a short video highlighted the achievements of our National Bowlers who heated up the lanes on the international stage, coming back with medals aplenty to show for their efforts.

After acknowledging the bumper year SingaporeBowling had, she gave reassurances to our younger bowlers, “This year there will be a lot more focus to… give you opportunities so that you can be up there, within striking distance of the tier-one team. We’ll get everyone there in good time.”

The Bowler of the Year went to Shayna Ng who had a phenomenal year that ended with an unprecedented Gold medal for All Events at the World Women’s Bowling Championships last year.

Joey Yeo was named Youth Bowler of the Year; she clinched the Gold medal for the women’s singles title at the Bowling World Open, the event being the sport’s bid for inclusion in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Shirine Dhillon was also recognized for her Outstanding Contribution to the Sport of Tenpin Bowling. The admin manager had been with SingaporeBowling for a staggering 23 years and counting.

Nods were also given to the keglers who have been in the National Program for five years, Justin Lim, Alexander Tan, Kristin Quah and Ilma Nur Jannah getting recognized for their efforts.
