Singaporean tops first block

13th April, Bangkok: 2014 Asian Championship Trios gold medalist, Geraldine Ng of Singapore national team topped Squad D to become the overall leader after the first block of qualifying round of the 42nd MWA Singha Thailand International Open Tenpin Bowling Championship.

 

Ng amassed a total of 1146 to lead the Women’s Open Masters qualifying standings after four squads had completed the first block of five games. Two-time ABF Tour Thailand leg winner, Yanee Saebae of Thailand, who finished second in the squad occupied top spot in the local pool with 1129.

2015 Asian Youth Masters gold medalist, Natasha Roslan of Malaysia, who topped the opening Squad A, trailed Ng in second in the overseas pool with 1127 while three-time Singapore Open champion, Sin Li Jane occupied third spot with 1098.

Thanchanok Vilailak and Kantaporn Singhabubpha earned the other two top spots for local women with 954 and 051 respectively. 2015 Chinese Taipei Youth and 2015 Milo Junior All-Stars champion, Tracy See of Singapore, tied fourth spot with Indonesia’s Alisha Nabila with 1079.

Other Singapore women in the top 24 were Charlene Lim (11th-1027), Jasmine Yeong-Nathan (13th-1024), Tay Hui Wen (19th-989) and Amanda Lee (23rd-969). The cut at 24th position went to Rina Asada of Japan with 957.

In the Men’s division, Basil Ng was the best Singapore men finishing third in the overseas pool with 1152. Sam Cooley of Australia, who tied with Kim Bolleby of Thailand with 1258 occupied top in the overseas pool. Squad D leader, Jassem Alsaqer of Kuwait is second in the overseas pool with 1217.

Jonovan Neo did well to finish fourth overall with 1147 while Cheah Ray Han of Singapore national team is the cut at 30th position with 1069.

The top 3 men and women in the overseas and local pool will earn a bye to automatically qualify for Round 3 finals. Positions 7 to 30 in the men’s mixed pool and positions 7 to 24 in the women’s mixed pool will qualify for Round 2 finals.

 

The top 18 Men’s Open finishers and top 8 Women’s Open finishers in Round 2 finals will be joined by the 6 Men’s Open and 6 Women’s Open seeded qualifiers for another 6 games finals in Round 3. The top 6 men and top 6 women will advance to the stepladder shootout finals with the first match for bowlers seeded 4 to 6 over one game. The winner will meet bowlers seeded 2 to 3 for another game in the second match.

The winner will earn the right to challenge the top seed for the title on a beat-twice format. The men champion will pocket the top prize of 300,000 Thai baht (approx. US$9,500) and the women champion 100,000 Thai baht (approx. US$3,000).
