Singaporean shoots fourth 300

29th January, Kuwait: Singapore national youth, Justin Lim Chun Liang shot the tournament’s fourth perfect game in his sixth and final game of the Boy’s Doubles second squad but failed to land any medals in the 15th Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championship on Friday. Basil Low and Justin Lim Chun Liang had a poor start of 368 in their opening game as Malaysia’s second pair of Johnathan Chan and Syimir Abdul Razak got off to a superb start with 479.

But their lead did not last long as Hong Kong’s Michael Mak and Eric Tseng fired a scintilating 511 in the third game to take over the running, 77 pins ahead of Malaysia. Low and Lim recovered with 449 and 411 to stay with the leading pair.

By the fifth game, Hong Kong had built up a 130-pin margin with 2304 and needing only 389 to overhaul Squad A leader of Park Jong Woo and Hong Hae Sol of Korea. The Singapore pair suffered another setback after a sub-400 game to slip out of contention.   Mak and Tseng ended strongly with 479 to secure Hong Kong’s first gold medal with 2783 while the Koreans settled for the silver medal with 2693. Malaysia’s first pair of Khoo Beng Khai and Aris Ardilla took the bronze medal with 2639. Justin Lim took home a consolation after he rolled the tournament’s fourth perfect game in the last game. Basil’s 246 also helped Singapore to pip the one-game record of 545 set by Malaysia in 1997.

Their late charge only gave them a sixth placed finish with 2595, 13 pins behind local challenger, Kuwait in fourth and the other Hong Kong pair fifth. The other Singapore pair of Benjamin Lim and Christopher Hwang managed only 13th position with 2378.

The girls will resume with their first block of 3 games in the Team event tomorrow morning over long oil pattern while the boys will contest theirs in the afternoon. The second block will be held on Sunday over short oil pattern.   Detailed scores: Boy’s Doubles Combined. Photos by Terence Yaw in Kuwait.
