Singaporean recovers to finish fourth

4th May, Jakarta: Two-time national champion, Jazreel Tan put up a respectable performance in the final qualifying block of the 8th World Ranking Masters 2008 finishing fourth in Squad C as Venezuelian Karen Marcano took pole position.Jazreel Tan, who was down with fever for the first two days of the competition, struggled in the first two squads finishing 15th in the first block and 17th in the second block. After recovering slightly, the 19-year-old was able to register much better scores.

The Singaporean started off with 199 but suffered a low game of 169 in the second. Suddenly she found her rythmn to fire 254, 214 and 212 to trail the leader, Karen Marcano of Venezuela after five games.

Although Tan suffered another low game of 155 in the sixth, she rebounded with 183 and 219 to end the final block with 1605 and just missed the podium by 1 pin to another Venezuelian, Alicia R. Marcano.

Tan eventually improved from 17th after the earlier two blocks to a respectable 12th on a 24-game total of 4563. Karen Marcano went on to top the squad with 1716 ahead of Latia's Diana Zavjalova in second and Alicia R. Marcano third on scores of 1626 and 1608 respectively.

Karen Marcano also claimed the overall top spot with 4832 to win an additional US$3,000 to the US$1,000 for topping Squad C. Shalin Zulkifli of Malaysia clinched second with 4740 while Squad A leader, Tannya Roumimper of Indonesia finished third with 4725.

Meanwhile, Squad A leader, Sami Konsteri ended the final squad in the lead with 1844 after a keen tussle with Argentine, Lucas Legnani, who settled for second with 1782 ahead of Malaysia's Zulmazran Zulkifli third with 1735.

Konsteri also claimed the overall top spot with 5173 to pocket another US$3,000 bonus. Legnani and Indonesia's Ryan Lalisang endded in second and third spots with 5106 and 4989. The top 8 women and top 8 men advance into the best of 3 games elimination knockout quarter-finals.
