Singaporean leads fourth EBT Masters

11th April, Ljubljana: Singapore national bowler, Cherie Tan led the women's preliminaries in the fourth European Bowling Tour Masters 2011 after 12 of 18 games on Monday at Gladiator Arena Bowling Center, Ljubljana, Slovenia.   Cherie Tan had a superb start finishing second to Joline Persson-Planefors of Sweden in the first block of 6-games over the medium oil pattern with 1303, 27 pins adrift. Finland's Krista Pollanen took third place with 1280.

In the second block over the long oil pattern, the Singaporean shot the highest 6-game series of 1438 to win 400 Euros. She had lines of 238, 224, 244, 250, 234 and 248. Wendy Kok of the Netherlands trailed Tan in second by 95 pins.

Tan led the standings after 12 games with a total of 2741, 132 pins over second-placed Kok with 2609 while Krista Pollanen took third spot with 2606. Persson-Planfors slipped down to fifth after a weak 1232 second block.

 

Nine-time PBA champion, Mika Koivuniemi of Finland led the men's division with 2874 ahead of perfect gamer, Martin Larsen of Sweden in second with 2857. USBC Hall of Famer, Parker Bohn III finished third with 2830.

Bowlers return on Tuesday morning for the final 6-game block on mixed oil (one lane medium oil and the other long oil) after which the field will be cut to the top 8 women and top 8 men.

They will contest seven round-robin matchplay games with pins brought forward from the preliminaries and the bowler with the highest pinfall total after 23 games inlcuding bonus (20 for win, 10 for tie) will be crowned the women's and men's EBT Masters champion worth 4,000 Euro each.
