Singaporean advances into next stage

7th April, Riyadh: Singapore national bowler, Remy Ong advanced into the Stage 1 double elimination knockout round of the 4th Saudi International Open Bowling Tournament after having finished ninth in the Semi-finals.  After being pushed down to sixth position in the last qualifying squad and receiving 120 pins bouns going into the Top 28 Semi-finals, Ong got off with 187, 196, 205 and 212 in the first half of the 8-game semi-finals.

But the 32-year-old picked up his pace with 214, 235 and 202 in his next three games but managed only 181 in the final game to take up ninth position. Indonesia’s Ryan Lalisang outclassed the field with a superb 1907 to finish in the lead.

American PBA pro Tim Mack, who led for two games, settled for second spot with 1889 while pace-setter, Mads Sandbaekken of Norway finished third with 1838. The final cut for the Stage 1 elimination rounds was HRH Prince Abdul Hakim with a total of 1721 on a scratch average of 215.13.

 

The top 12 will be joined by the top 4 seeded qualifiers – Biboy Rivera of the Philippines, Andrew Frawley of Australia, Patrick Healey Jnr of USA and Zulmazran Zulkifli of Malaysia for the two-game total pinfalls knockout Stage 1 later today.
