Singapore women in medal contention
25th August, Henderson, USA: Singapore’s first trios of Shanya Ng, Bernice Lim and Jazreel Tan rolled themselves into a medal contention position after finishing third in the first block of the World Championships 2013 behind leader Korea and Chinese Taipei in second.
Singles bronze medalists, Huang Chiung-Yao and Wang Ya-Ting teamed up with Chou Chia-Chen set a blistering pace with a 737 opening game to lead the Swedish trio by 67 pins with the second Singapore trio of Cherie Tan, New Hui Fen and Daphne Tan in third a further 27 pins away.
A poor 561 from the Taiwanese saw their lead taken over by Ryu Seo-Yeon, Lee Na-Young and Son Yun-Hee after the Koreans blazed the lanes with 736 in the second game as Singapore too let their pace dropped.
Whilst the Koreans ended the first block over the short oil pattern in the lead with 2010 ahead of Chinese Taipei in second with 1897, Singapore’s first trio of Shayna Ng, Bernice Lim and Jazreel Tan stormed home to snatch third spot with 1862.
Bernice posted the highest three games series of 717 with lines of 247, 223 and 247 while Shayna and Jazreel managed 541 and 604 series respectively.
After two disappointing events of the champioships which started on August 18, the trio has redeemed themselves with a promising performance.
The second trio of Kim Moon-Jeong, Baek Sung-Ja and Jung Da-Wun finished fourth with 1838 while Cherie, Hui-Fen and Daphne felled down to tenth position with 1784. The women will resume with their second block over medium oil pattern on August 27.
Over in the men’s division, the Americans continued to display their prowess by leading the first block. Singles gold medalist, Bill O’Neill, Tommy Jones and Chris Barnes amassed a total of 2040 in the first block.
Canada and Colombia tied second spot with 1992 as the second American trio of John Janawicz, John Szcerbinski and Mike Fagan rounded out the top 4 with 1975.
The second Singapore trio of Ng Tiac Pin, Ne Chiew Pang and Keith Saw completed the first block in a lowly 20th position with 1835, 205 pins off the leader and the frist trio of Jaris Gohm Joel Tan and Javier Tan ended in 59th position with 1637, 403 pins off the pace.
