Singapore women adds second silver

28th September, Anyang, Korea: Singles silver medalist, Jazreel Tan inspired her team-mates, New Hui Fen and Cherie Tan to fight their way from sixth in the first block to win the Women’s Trios silver medal at the 17th Asian Games Incheon 2014 on Sunday.

The Singapore threesome was 179 pins behind overnight leader, Korea and 8 pins behind the other Singapore trio of Daphne Tan, Joey Yeo and Shayna Ng who were fourth. Cherie, Hui Fen and Jazreel got off the second block brilliantly with 694 to immediately moved up to second.

Although Korea posted only 602 in the fourth game, they were able to hang on to the lead and 87 pins ahead of Singapore. Indonesia frist trio notched up 620 to take up third position, 127 pins away.

Korea continued to lead the field despite another 607 game in the fifth but Singapore could not take advantage of the opportunity when they managed only 599 to go further away from the leader to 95 pins.

Malaysia first trio rolled a splendid 662 in the fifth game to haul themselves up to third, albeit 140 pins adrift as Singapore’s other trio slipped out of medal contention.

Cheered on by a capacity crowd at Anyang Hogye Gymnasium Bowling Centre, the Koreans were simply unbeatable cruising home with a sizzling 652 to secure their second gold medal at the competition with 3896.

Singapore came home with 604 to secure their second silver medal with 3753 while Korea second trio of Lee Yeong Seung, Jeon Eun Hee and Kim Jin Sun stormed home with 621 to snatch the bronze medal with 3692.

Indonesia missed the podium by 8 pins to settle for fourth position with 3684 while Chinese Taipei rounded out the top 5 with 3663. Malaysia suffered a lowly 557 in their final game to end up in sixth ahead of the other Singapore trio.

Singles silver medalist, Sin Li Jane of Malaysia rolled the highest 6-games series of 1380 to leapfrog the Koreans for top spot in the All Events with 3901. Two gold medalists, Lee Na Young and Son Yun Hee are second and third with 3876 and 3815 respectively.

Cherie Tan and Jazreel Tan are hot on their heels ocuppying fourth and fifth positions with 3792 and 3751 respectively. Hui Fen is in tenth with 3674, Daphne Tan 17th, Shayna Ng 23rd and Joey Yeo 30th.
