Singaporean eying second victory

5th October, Jakarta: Singapore national bowler, New Hui-Fen is eying for a second victory when she defends the Women’s Open Masters title of the 10th Indonesia International Open after topping the overseas pool to earn a bye in Round 1.

Hui Fen registered two 3-games series of 718 and 668 for a 6-game aggregate of 1386 to lead the Women’s Open Masters qualifying table. Although as defending champion, the Singaporean does not need to qaulify but by leading the table, she will earn a bye in Round 1 finals.

Reigning Malaysian Open champion, Zandra Aziela finished second to Hui Fen with 1319 while 2011 ABF Tour Indonesia champion, Hee Kar Yen tied third spot with 2012 IBC first runnerup, Dayang Khairuniza with 1299.

Early leader, Siti Safiyah Amirah of Malaysia, slipped down to fifth with 1277 and may need to make additional attempts if she wanted an automatic entry into Round 2 finals. 2010 Indonesia Open Women’s champion, Zatil Iman of Malaysia finished sixth with 1262.

Ilma Nur Jannah finished 10th with 1236 while Bernice Lim topped the Mixed pool with 1232 and Geraldine Ng finished seventh in the same pool with 1141.

2009 ABF Tour Macau champion and 2010 Asian Games Team silver medalist, Putty Armein headed the top 3 local qualifiers for Round 2 finals with 1284. Her compatriots, Sharon Limansantoso and Novie Phang finished second and third with 1279 and 1213.

Positions 9 – 10 plus 5 from Local seeded qualifiers and positions 4 – 10 plus 9 from Mixed Pool in the Women’s Open division will bowl 10 games in Round 1 finals on October 6.

Meanwhile, Remy Ong secured his spot in the Men’s Open Masters finals with a sixth place finish on 1364 and will have to battle it out in Round 1 finals. Ong will no doubt make additional tries in an attempt to move into the top 3.

Eugene Low made the cut in 11th position in the Mixed Pool and will need to his scoreline in order to secure his place in the finals. Alexander Tan has yet to make the cut managing only 1178.

2010 Men’s Open champion, Hsieh Chin Liang spun his way to the top of the overseas pool with 1461 on two sizzling 3-game series of 733 and 728. The Taiwanese also became the only qualifier to surpass the 1400-mark.

Hong Kong’s national bowlers, Michael Tsang and Michael Mak impressed by taking up second and third in the pool with 1431 and 1411 to join Hsieh in Round 2 finals.

2009 Men’s Open champion and reigning Malaysian Open champion, Zulmazran Zulkifli, who was third overnight, dropped out of the top bracket into fourth spot with 1422 while his compatriot, Chong Jun Foo rounded out the top 5 with 1398.

Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia headed the top 3 local qualifiers with 1450 followed by 2012 Asian Schools Masters gold medalist, Adhiguna Widiantoro in second with 1343. 2011 SEA Games Team bronze medalist, Oscar made up the top 3 in third with 1326.

Positions 10 – 12 plus 6 from Local seeded qualifiers and positions 4 – 12 plus 11 from Mixed Pool in the Men’s Open division will bowl 10 games in Round 1 finals on October 6.

The top 18 finishers will join the top 3 local and top 3 overseas qualifiers for another 10 games in Round 2 finals on October 7 pinfalls dropped. The top 6 finishers at the end of the Round 2 finals will advance to the stepladder grand finals.
