Singapore Sports School youths dominate U18 finals

10th August, Jakarta: Anthea Soh led Edlyn Kwok and Tan Yan Ling to finish 1-2-3 in the Girl's U18 finals while Justin Lim captured the Boy's U18 title in the 5th Indonesia International Open Friday evening at Jaya Ancol Bowl.  Anthea Soh, competing in her first international outing for Singapore Sports School, made the grade with flying colours after she amassed a total of 1563 to bag the Girl's Under 18 crown. The 15-year-old Sec 3 student knocked down lines of 197, 169, 190, 232, 160, 206, 238 and 171 for an impressive average of 195.38.

Edlyn Kwok settled second with 1476, 87 pins adrift the champion. Tan Yan Ling took third spot with 1398, a further 165 pins away to give Singapore Sports School a 1-2-3 finish in the Girl's U16 finals.

DK Nurazimah of Brunie clinched fourth position with 1379 just 4 pins ahead of Malaysia's Dina Nurnadia in fifth on 1375. Enseilla Goh (6th-1374), Oriana Tay (8th-1326) and Felicia Teo (11th-1259) were the other girls that competed in the finals.

In the Boy's Under 18 division, Justim Lim prevented two Indonesian youths their victory when Lim clinched the title with a total of 1572, just 7 pins ahead of Diwan R of Indonesia in second. Thanks to an eighth and final game of 231, Lim was able to overtake the pace-setter for the victory.

Hendy S of Indonesia settled for third spot after totaling 1552 while Jin Lau, who set a blistering pace in the first half of the 8-game finals, fizzled off to end up fourth with 1517. Christopher Hwang only managed a fifth place finish with 1478.

Colin Wee and Alexander Tan were the only other two Singapore Sports Schools boys who contested in the finals but finished a dismal 11th and 13th out of 15 finalists.

The double victory made up the disappointment in yesterday's Under 23 finals in which Basil Low and Justin Lim were the best boys performers finishng 7th and 8th while Edlyn Kwok, Gina Lim and Bernice Lim finished 5th, 8th and 9th positions respectively.
