Singapore hopeful of a medal

11th July, Jakarta: Singapore’s first team pair of Joey Yeo-Kristin Quah and second team pair of Charmaine Lim-Nur Dyana are hoping of winning a medal in the Girls Doubles at the 14th Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships after finishing second and third in the opening squad.

Singles silver medalist, Madeline Mae Llamas of Philippines first team, who partnered Janine Kuwahara, led from start to finish with 2472 with Llamas rolling 1170 and Kuwahara posting the highest 6-game series of 1302 for the lead.

Singapore’s first team pair of Joey Yeo and Kristin Quah settled for a distant second with 2321. Yeo registered 1116 and Quah rolled a higher 1205 to help the pair to take up second spot.

Singapore’s second team pair of Charmaine Lim and Nur Dyana clinched third spot with 2274 after Lim knocked down 1179 and Nur Dyana managed 1095. Both pairs will be hoping that their scores will be good enough to secure them a medal after the second squad complete.

Japan’s first pair of Nao Kato-Chika Terashita and Hong Kong’s first pair of Kelly Ho-Victoria Chan completing the top 5 with 2263 and 2256 respectively.Meanwhile, host nation Indonesia made a promising start when their first team pair of Adhiguna Widiantoro and Billy Muhammad Islam topped the Boy’s Doubles Squad A with 2520. Adhiguna shot 1241 to match Billy’s 1279 for the lead.

Indonesia’s second team pair of Fachri Ibnu Askar and Kevin Reinhart stormed home to snatch second spot with 2498 giving Indonesia a one-two finish. Fachri rolled 1222 to add to Kevin’s 1276.

Korea’s second team pair of Choi Hyun-Jin and Choi Jae-Hyun clinched third spot with 2490, just 8 pins from the Indonesia second pair.

Singapore’s two pairs of Benedict Tan-Ng Kai Xiang ended in seventh position with 2451 while Singles gold and silver medalists, Javier Tan and Joel Tan struggles to repeat their form shown yesterday with a dismal 16th position out of 21 pairs in this squad.

 

Kuwait’s first team pair and Australia’s first team pair, who were battling for the lead in the early stages, closed out the top 5 with 2485 and 2483 respectively.

The second squad will take to the lanes after oiling and the combined scores of both the squads will determine to top 3 medal winners of the two divisions.
