Singapore bowler claims EBT Masters title

12th April, Ljubljana: Overnight leader, Cherie Tan of SingaporeBowling claimed the women's title of the 2010 season-ending 4th European Bowling Tour Masters 2011 at the Gladiator Arena Bowling Center on Tuesday.  Tan, who participated in just one tournament on the 2010 EBT and had earned 250 ranking points in the EBT Brunswick Ballmasters Open, was ranked 20th but made it to the Masters due to several withdrawals.

The Singaporean made the best out of it, finishing second on medium oil in the first block, then topped the field after the second block on long oil and ended the third block on mixed oil to earn top seed for the round-robin matchplay.

Tan won her first six games with 220, 267, 201, 237, 235 and 267 to wrap up the title before losing to Denmark's Mai Ginge Jensen, 191-224 in the final game. The champion finished in the lead with 5771 total including 120 bonus pins.

Jensen won all but one match in which she tied with compatriot Kamilla Kjeldsen to finish second with 5599 including 130 bonus.

Joline Persson-Planfors of Sweden, who won two of the three qualifying blocks, fininshed third with 5477 while Kjeldsen, who has three EBT Women's titles to her credit, ended in eighth place.Meanwhile, PBA star Mika Koivuniemi of Finland, who led the 16-player field after the first day, had to fight hard with qualifying leader, Martin Larsen of Sweden to claim the men's title.

The sole two-time EBT winner this season led the round-robin matchplay field of 8 after five games. Larsen took back the lead when he rolled the tournament's second 300. But the Finn bounched back with his own 300 in the last game to end with 6075 total including six wins.

Larsen lost to Parker Bohn III in the final game to settle for second position with 6020 while the 32-time PBA Tour champion, Bohn took third place with 5918.

Koivuniemi and Tan won 4,000 Euro each as champion while Larsen and Jensen took home 3,000 Euro each as first runnerup. Bohn and Persson-Planfors won 2,000 Euro as third place finishers.
