Remy Ong wins San Marino Open

20th July, Serravalle: Remy Ong of Singapore defeated Austria's Thomas Gross, 466-437 in the 2-games title match to win the 4th Storm San Marino Open and took home the top prize of 10,000 Euro at Rose 'n Bowl on Sunday. Ong was in scintillating form as he shot 256 in the first of 2 games title match against Austrian Thomas Gross' 234. The 29-year-old sent on to beat his opponent 210-203 to win his first-ever EBT Tour title and pocketed 10,000 Euro.

The Singaporean reached the finals by eliminating German Jens Nickel, 478-367 in the Round 5 semi-finals to earn a crack at the title while Gross ousted American, Pete Weber, 438-359 in the other semi before going down to the Singaporean.

The champion chalked up a 4-game total of 893 to finish fourth in Round 2 behind topseed, Andersson followed by Torgersen in second and Raymond Jansson of Sweden third. He had earlier shot 899 in Round 1 finals to advance into the next round.   Ong knocked out former World Cup champion, Tore Torgersen of Norway, 453-381 in Round 4 and earned a spot in the semi-finals. The tenth-seed also took out Robert Andersson of Sweden, 485-405 in the earlier Round 3.

Zara Glover of England, bowling with a 32-pin handicap, finished in the lead with 910. Vittorio Vaglia of Italy and Gianluca Badiali took second and third spot ahead of Ong with 925 and 901 respectively.
