Former national champion in top 10

31st March, Manila: Former national champion and member of the Singapore national team, Jasmine Yeong-Nathan put in a superb performance in the Stage 1 finals of the 5th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge underway at Pearl Bowling Center.

The 2005 national champion, who was lying fourth and fifth most of the way, had lines of 257, 198, 221, 245, 224, 216, 208 and 258 to amassed a total of 1827 and with the added 64 pins handicap, Jasmine finished seventh position.

Teammates, Sabrina Lim and Cherie Tan joined Jasmine to make the cut for the top 24 Stage 2 finals with 1834 and 1812 plus handicap respectively. Lee Yu-Wen, who scored the tournament's sixth perfect game, missed the cut by just 56 pins and finishing in 28th with 1736.

Others who failed to progress were Jazreel Tan (30th-1728), Rena Teng (32nd-1721), Remy Ong (34th-1710) and Lionel Lim (36th-1689). Malaysia's Aaron Kong topped the 8-game Stage 1 with 1941 followed by Hong Kong's Cyrus Cheung in second and Korea' Kim Byeong Hak third with 1935 and 1929 respectively.

Filipino bowler of the century, Paeng Nepmonuceno showed that he is still an opponent to content with, finished a creditable fourth with 1923 followed by Australia's Jason Belmonte completing the top 5 with 1899.

Malaysia's Zulmazran Zulkifli was the final and 24th qualifier with a score of 1777 with Asian Champion, Ryan Lalisang and Guam's Jay Leon Guerrero missing with a tie score of 1770.

The top 24 bowlers will proceed to the Stage 2 finals tomorrow, Sunday 1st April for another 8 games during which the top 8 will make the cut for the round-robin finals. At the end of the finals, the top 4 will move on to the stepladder grand finals.
