Encouraging display from debutant
13th March, Kuwait: Daphne Tan of SIngapore put in an encouraging debut at the PBA-World Bowling Tour to finish fourth in Squad C and 30th in the overall standings of the 10th Kuwait International Open underway at Cozmo owling Centre on Wednesday.
Daphne started off with 214 in her opening game but managed only 193 in the second game as Tannya Roumimper of Indonesia set a cracking pace with a stunning 279 to lead Sandra Andersson of Sweden in second.
But the Singaporean bounced back with 203 and followed it up with 213 and 220 to end the first block of 5 games with 1088, averaging an impressive 213.60. Tannya took the squad with 1222, 74 pins ahead of Andersson in second with 1148.
American PBA pro, Parker Bohn III finished third with 1098, just 10 pins ahead of Daphne. Reigning World Cup champion and winner of the fourth PBA-World Bowling Tour fourth stop at the IBC 2013, Shayna Ng took ninth with 1064, 4 pins behind Daphne.
The fourth Singaporean, Jazreel Tan had a bad break in the fourth game after a disasterous 134 to end in 14th position and just 971 total despite a superb opening game of 244.
2012 Asia Ranked No. 1, Yousif Falah of Bahrain took the opening squad and topped the first block overall standings with 1329 ahead of PBA Player of the Year, Sean Rash of USA finished second with 1288.
Squad D leader and 2012 ABF Tour Saudi leg champion, Shaker Al Hassan of UAE did well to take third spot with 1240. Tannya was placed fourth while newly-crowned Kingdom of Bahrain Open champion, Mika Koivuniemi of Finland finished fifth with 1202.
2012 Kingdom of Saudi Open champion, Martin Larsen claimed sixth position with 1193. The top 6 plus the top Kuwaiti qualifier in the top bracket will earn three byes into Found 5 finals.
Qualifiers positioned 8 to 14 will earn two byes into Round 4 finals and qualifiers positioned 15 to 22 will earn one bye into Round 3 finals. Players in positions 23 to 34 plus the four highest Kuwaiti qualifiers outside the top 34, will contest the ROund 2 finals on March 16.
Women has 5 pins handicap for each game played. The top 5 will advance to the stepladder finals after the special Round 5 modified Matchplay finals while the top 3 women in all the rounds will also contest the Women’s stepladder finals.
Top prize for the men’s division is US$25,000 with the first runner-up taking home US$12,000 and second runner-up, US$8,000. The women’s champion will win an extra US$2,850, second, third and fourth placing earning US$1,850, US$1,400 and US$1,200 respectively.
A total of 84 players wil continue with their second block of 5 games tomorrow over four squads and the third and final block on March 15.
