Clean sweep by Singapore youths

21st December, Penang: Javier Tan led a Singapore Sports School clean sweep of the podium places in the Boy's Under-16 Masters finals of the 38th Penang Pesta International Open at Premium Lanes at Sunshine Square. The 15-year-old, who finished third runnerup in the recent MILO International Junior All Stars and shared the perfect game award of RM50,000 with eventual champion, scored 1920 to finish ahead of Keith Saw and Muhd Jaris Goh in second and third with 1798 and 1693.

"This will surely serve as a good encouragement for me in the events to come and I hope to be able to do better," quoted Javier in the Stars paper report today.

Thirteen-year-old Nora Lyana Norkamal stole the limelight after the Form One student of SK Jalan Empat Bandar Baru Bangi in Selangor won the Under-16 Girl's title. Nora posted a score of 1727 to lift her first international crown.

Penangnite Iver Tan Jia Chuen finished second with 1639 and Charmaine Lim of Singapore was third with 1618.   Nora will now turn her attention to doing well in the Ladies' Graded and the Youth Open finals since having qualified as well. Photos by Terence Yaw.
