Cherie almost stole the title from Malaysian

1st April, Manila: Singapore's national team member, Cherie Tan almost stole the 5th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge title from Malaysia's Adrian Ang but lost the deciding stepladder match, 220-253 which concluded Sunday afternoon.  Team Singapore member, Cherie Tan, who made the stepladder finals after a superb performance in the Stage 3 round-robin finals in third, outclassed Malaysia's Zulmazran Zulkifli, 287-228 in the first match. Tan brought home six consecutive strikes to shut out the Malaysian and never gave her opponent time to settle down.

Matched against a much more experienced Jason Belmonte of Australia, Tan displayed great composure to edged the Aussie, 230-212 despite openign the match with a split and ending off with another split in the tenth fram.

The runner-up almost snatched the victory when she forced top-seed, Adrian Ang of Malaysia into the final deciding match after wining the first match, 239-179. And despite putting in a spirited fight, Tan ended her hopes 220-253 in the final match.

Cherie also topped the Stage 2 finals bowled in the morning with 2034 ahead of Zulmazran Zulkifli in second with 2033. Belmonte, Adrian Ang, Sabrina Lim of Singapore, Cecilia Yap of the Philippines, Kim Byeong Hak of Korea and Paeng Nepomuceno of the Philippines made the Stage 3 round-robin finals from third to eighth positions.

Jasmine Yeong-Nathan, who did well to finish seventh in Stage 1 could not repeat the form she showed on Saturday and missed the cut in 19th position managing only 1769 pinfalls. Jazreel Tan, Rena Teng, Remy Ong and Lionel Lim did not qualify for Stage 2.

Stage 1 leader, Aaron Kong of Malaysia missed the cut finishing ninth with favourite, Shalin Zulkifli and Jong Kong's Cyrus Cheung in tenth and 11th respectively. Tim Mack and double perfect gamer, Purvis Granger of USA both failed to impress ending up in 18th and 21st positions.
