A superb third for Singaporean

11th January, Helsinki: Newly-voted SingaporeBowling’s Women Bowler of the Year, Cherie Tan Shi Hua ended her campaign at the 1st EBT Platinum Brunswick Ballmasters Open 2010 with a creditable third on Monday.

Singapore’s Cherie Tan had qualified in 23rd position with a score of 1379 which included a handicap of 48 pins for female participant competing against the men. Joining Tan was Jason Yeong-Nathan who also made the cut in 33rd position with 1363.

USA’s Mike Fagen topped the standings with a scintilating 1572 to lead the top 44 into the Step 1 Finals. Sweden’s Martin Larsen and Denmark’s Jesper Agerbo was second and third with 1505 and 1469 respectively.

Tan put in another fine run in the 8-game Step 1 Finals to finish eighth after totaling 1780 which included a 64-pin handicap in which 2009 World Ranking Masters champion, Dominic Barrett led with 1880. Yeong-Nathan could not get into his strides finishing a dismal 46th with only 1456.

The Step 2 Finals almost belong to the Singaporean lass but had to settle for second behind top American PBA pro, Parker Bohn III. Tan chalked up 1780 to add to her earlier Step 1 Finals score for an aggregate total of 4000. Bohn III topped the field with 4190.

But Tan’s fine run came to a heartbreaking end after she lost to Mika Koivuniemi of Finland, 195-270 in the semifinals to settle for third spot. Koivuniemi went on to defeat No. 1 seed, Paker Bohn III, 248-203 to emerge as champion. The champion had earlier edged Sweden’s Thomas Leandersson, 210-199 to meet Tan.

The Finn won 15,000 Euro as champion while Bohn III settled home 8,000 Euro. Tan took home 5,000 Euro for her effort with Leandersson winning 3,000 Euro.
