A good third for Singaporean
8th June, Hong Kong: National bowler, Jazreel Tan of Singapore put in a creditable performance to finish third in the Women’s Open Stage 1 finals of the 38th Hong Kong International Open behind Indonesia’s Sharon Limansantoso in the lead.
Yap Seok Kim of Bowlmart, Philippines got off the mark with a superb 243 to lead the field of 24 finalists, 7 pins ahead of Singapore’s Jazreel Tan in second but Sharon Limansantoso took over the lead after she posted 215 and 216 in her first two games.
Sharon led for another game but lost the lead briefly to Tan when she fired a big game of 257 in the fourth game. Sharon and Tan then tussled for the lead in the next four games but Sharon’s consistency saw her drawing away by 29 pins after the seventh game.
The leader went on to end the block with 176, 279 and 177 to top the stage with 2154. Early pace-setter, Yap finished second with 2125, 29 pins adrift while the Singaporean slipped down to third with 2087.
Zatil Iman of Malaysia did well to take up fourth position with 2054 as a second Indonesian, Putty Armein rounded up the top 5 with 2033.
Macau’s Hui Tong squeezed into the next stage after she finished 15th position with 1878, 14 pins ahead of Hong Kong’s Gloria Yung, who missed the cut by 214 pins. Tan
Tan will be joined by defending champion and team-mate, Shayna Ng, who earned a bye in this stage after having qualified in the top 3 of the overseas pool.
Meanwhile, three-time champion, Wu Siu Hong clinched top spot in the men’s division with 2211 after taking over the running in seventh game. Malaysia’s Syafiq Ridhwan stormed home with 248 in his tenth and final game to snatch second spot with 2203.
UAE’s Hussain Al Suwaidi, who was second to Wu in the eighth and ninth games, slipped down to third after a poor 160 in his last game. Fadhel Al Mousawi of Kuwait and Adrian Ang of Malaysia completed the top 5 with 2117 and 2106 respectively.
Ang’s team-mate, Aaron Kong completed the top 18 to make the cut for the next stage with 1961 while Hong Kong’s Lau Kwun Ho missed the cut by just 1 pin after finishing 19th position with 1960.
The top 15 women and top 18 men will be joined by the six seeded qualifiers for another 10 games in tomorrow’s Stage 2 finals. The top 6 women and top 6 men will advance into the stepladder shootout finals.
