National youth takes over lead

14th December, K.Lumpur: National youth, Ilma Nur Jannah took over the lead of the overseas pool of the Girl's Open Masters at the 12th MILO Internatinal Junior All-Stars Bowling Championship at Sunway Mega Lanes on Wednesday.  The 17-year-old national youth who had last month won the Team gold medal at the 25th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship in Singapore, had slipped down to 12th and last in the mixed pool after a 571 effort.

But Ilma got into her strides to fire a superb 728 to snatch the lead of the Girl's Open Masters overseas pool after the Korean had taken over the lead from New Hui Fen. Lee shot 719 for second while Hui Fen slipped to third with 714.

Newly-crowned national champion, Kristel Oh qualified alongside Ilma in fifth with 702 followed by Jasmine Yeong-Nathan sixth with 679. Two-time National Championship first runner-up, Clara Lau finished eighth with 675.

  There were no changes to the local pool with fourth perfect gamer, Zatil Iman in the lead with 753. National youth, Syaidatul Affifah and national elite squad member and former champion, Siti Safiyah second and third.Meanwhile, Sam Cooley of Australia shot the tournament's sixth perfect game en-route to improving his score from 760 to 799 but had to settle for second after failing to overhaul leader, Javier Tan of Singapore Sports School.

Tan topped the Boy's Open Masters overseas table with 813, 14 pins ahead of the Aussie. Hazeem Al-Merekhi of Qatar shot 785 to move up to third followed by Singapore's Tay Hui Chiang and Hong Kong's Michael Chan completing the top 5.

Shaun Lau finished eighth with 705 ahead of Basil Low in ninth with 697 while Ng Kai Xiang of Agape Bowling took 12th position in the same pool.

Sitting comfortably atop the local pool is first perfect gamer, Muhd Nur Aiman with a score of 822. National youths, Muhd Rafiq Bin Ismail and Wan Nadzmi Fikri also remained in second and third with 784 and 764.

  

Qualifying continues for the next two days for the Open division and The Masters division before their finals on December 18 and 19. The Youth Graded division finals will be held tomorrow morning.
