Two Singaporeans make next round

6th June, Singapore: Commonwealth Championships Doubles gold medalist, Muhd Jaris Goh and 2012 Singapore Open Youth champion, Javier Tan survived the Men’s Open Round 1 Masters finals of the 47th Singapore Open to advance to the next round.

Muhd Jaris got of the block superbly with 257, 216 and 224 but then dropped his pace slightly in the fourth with 197. Despite the setback, Jaris was able to stay in the top 16. The 19-year-old bounced back with 222, 233, 259 and 215 to end the round with 1823.

Crucially, Jaris made the cut for tomorrow’s Round 2 in eighth position. Javier Tan also got off the mark much better with 223, 226, 268 and 213 to stay well in the top 16. Although coming home with 225, 297, 207 and 201, Tan finished 13th with 1770.

Tan will join Jaris for Round 2 finals. Justim Lim Chia Loong too was doing well in the early stages but fizzled off in games 5 to 7 and was unable to recover to make the cut. Lim finished 19th with 1741, just 21 pins off the cut.

Joel Tan, Jonovan Neo, Alexander Tan and Alex Chong failed to make the cut finishing 29th, 31st, 32nd and 35th positions respectively.

Indonesians, Yeri Ramadona and Ryan Lalisang stole the limelight by taking up the top 2 positions with 1910 and 1893 respectively. Lalisang also rolled the tournament’s fifth 300 and the masters finals first.

Lalisang will pocket the full amount of S$10,000 if no one else achieve this feat in the next two days of the masters finals or else he will have to share the prize.

2011 PBA Player of the Year and American PBA pro, Sean Rash of USA, who was battling with the Indonesians for the lead, settled for third position with 1878.

Ahmad Muaz of Malaysia and Kenneth Chua of the Philippines tied fourth position with 1844 to round out the top 5. Zulmazran Zulkifli of Malaysia was the cut at 16th position with 1762 while desperado squad qualifier, Chiam Yew Koon of Singapore missed the cut by 15 pins to finish 17th.
