Team Singapore going through their paces

10th February, Jakarta: Team Singapore arrived at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center and went through their first unofficial practice for the 15th Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships starting on Wednesday.

The team left for Jakarta on Sunday morning and arrived in the afternoon. Upon checking into the hotel at Aston Marina, the team came to the center to prepare for their first unofficial practice session.

Leading the team is national senior assistant coach, Thomas Fox assisted by assistant coaches, Ronnie Ng and Clara Lau. The boys team comprised of Benedict Tan Xuan Wei, Brandan Tan Wei An, Darren Ong Wei Siong, Isaac Ng Kin Meng, Jonovan Neo Ze Min, Kuek Qien, Marcus Kiew Jia Wei and Timothy Tam.

The girls team are made up of Amanda Lee Fang Lin, Charlene Lim Jia Yi, Charmaine Chang, Charmaine Lim, Daphne Oh Xin Yi, Joy Yap Jing Ying, Kristin Quah Wen Mei and Iliya Syamin Bte Muhd Azni.

The team will have two addidtional unofficial practices tomorrow (Monday) before the managers’ meeting at 8.00pm. The official practice sessions will be held on Tuesday, 11th February before the official opening ceremony in the evening followed by a welcome reception hosted by Persatuan Boling Indonesia.

Competition will kick off with the Singles on Wednesday, 12 February divided into two squads over six games on the 38-feet medium oil pattern. Competition will resume with the Doubles on Thursday, 13 February, again over two squads.

The Team of 4 will be contested on Friday, 14 February over two blocks of 3 games in the morning and afternoon. The top 16 boys and top 16 girls in the All Events standing after 18 games will qualify for the Masters finals.

Two blocks of 8-games Round-robin matchplay Masters finals will be held on Saturday and Sunday, 15 and 16 February. The top 3 boys and top 3 girls will advance to the stepladder finals to determine the winners.

A total of 11 countries are taking part comprising of 68 boys and 52 girls. Australia, Indonesia, Korea, Philippines and Singapore are fielding two boys and two girls teams (8 boys and 8 girls).

Kuwait is fielding two boys team and Hong Kong and Thailand one boys team while Japan and Macau are fielding one boys and one girls team respectively. The big surprise is Malaysia, who is not sending any players. They have been in all the past Asian School meet and hase finished overall champion on 8 occasions.
