Success on the lanes and studies

National bowler, Jazreel Tan who is currently pursuing her Sports Management degree in Wichita State University is one of the bowlers in line for the Rookie of the Year honour, which is a top American sports award.

As the only Asian and first Singapore bowler to be in the Shockers Team, Jazreel had not failed to achieve outstanding sporting excellence where she is one of the team mates whom had led the Lady Shockers team to clinch titles in the various inter-collegiate tournaments such as the Mid States Tournament in Kansas, the Team Match Games and S.I. Elite Collegiate Tournament both in Illinois.

With an average of about 200 pinfalls per game, Jazreel currently leads the nationwide rankings for first-year keglers.

“It had been an experience to be able to qualify into the team as one of the selection processes includes a physical test as it is necessary for bowlers to have a certain level of fitness, apart from our mental capability and our ability on the lanes,” Jazreel commented during her last visit in Singapore.

“To be able to continue to keep up in my game is another challenge and something I hope to achieve after I have been selected into the team.”

Jazreel had also learnt to be more independent and self-disciplined since she started her studies as the University advocates strongly on both academic and sports achievements. Despite the cultural differences among her team mates, Jazreel had been able to build up friendship and teamwork with her friendly and helpful team mates.

On the academic front, Jazreel achieved A in all the 4 modules in her first semester of her studies and with a GPA of 3.7, she also achieved the prestigious Academic All-American award which is a nation-wide college recognition for student-athletes who have achieved a GPA of 3.5 and more.

Jazreel will be returning to Singapore in May and has proven herself to be a good role model to her peers.
