Singaporeans still in title contention

25th February, K.Lumpur: Triple gold medalist, Geraldine Ng and two gold medalist, Shayna Ng of Singapore were still in contention for the V Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship Masters medal after finishing third and seventh positions on Friday.Geraldine Ng, who already captured the Doubles, Team and All Events gold medals, bowled consistently with lines of 200, 223, 194, 215, 195 and 215 to managed four wins and total of 1282.

Geraldine's team-mate, Shayna Ng was equally impressive but lost three of the six matches and managed only to win two and drew one for a total of 1194. Doubles silver medalist, Hayley White of England topped the field of 12 with 1387 from five wins.

Malta's Sue Abela led Geraldine by 49 pins to take up second spot also from five wins on a total of 1331. Local favourites, Zandra Aziela and Siti Safiyah Amriah managed only sixth and 12th positions respectively.

Meanwhile, Singapore's sole representative in the men's division, Remy Ong found the going tougher than expected and was unble to get into his Team winning strides to end the first block in 12th psotion.The consistent and All Events gold medalist, Adrian Ang of Malaysia set course for his second individual gold medal after leading the field with 1353 with four wins and a draw.

Mixed Doubles gold medalist, Matt Miller of England trailed the Malaysian by 54 pins to finish second with 1299 while Chris Jaap of Wales surprised the field with a third place finish on 1275.

The Masters finals will resume with the second block over another 6 matches at the end of which the top 3 men and top 3 women would advance to the stepladder finals for the final gold medal of the championship.
