Singaporeans making good progress

17th May, Manila: Collegaite MVP winner, Jazreel Tan led Singapore national bowlers into making good progress at the 9th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge underway at Pearl Bowling Center.  Jazreel Tan, who was recently named the Most Valuable Player for the 2011-12 college bowling season, rolled 217, 248 and 227 on May 15 for a 716 series. Tan added a 763 series with 277, 217 and 245 on the following day to give herself a 1479 6-game tally which put her in 13th position.

Ng Tiac Pin was Singapore’s best male performer after he totaled 1469 with 676 and 793 series to finish 16th. Ng also posted a 300 in his better series. Malaysian Open first runner-up, Shayna Ng continued to show good form after she totaled 1462, one spot below Ng in 17th.

Another southpaw, Remy Ong produced a decent display by scoring 1457 to finish 19th position while Geraldine Ng was not far away in 23rd position with 1446. Jasmine Yeong-Nathan managed 38th position with 1422 and may have to improve it slightly to ensure her place in the finals.

Meanwhile, Korean PBA Choi Won-Young topped the standings with 1569 from two massive series of 807 and 762. Asian Youth Masters silver medalist, Kenneth Chua was Philippines best finisher by taking up second spot with 1559. Chua also shot a perfect game on May 14.Guangzhou Asian Games two gold medalist and scorer of a perfect game yesterday, Alex Liew finished third with 1559. PBA Hall of Famer, Parker Bohn III of USA took sixth position with 1527.

Best female in the standings was Siti Safiyah of Malaysia in 11th position with 1502 while Krizziah Tabora was Philippines’ best female finisher in 21st position with 1449.

Notable American PBA players were Ryan Ciminelli in 14th position with 1476, Dino Castillo in 22nd with 1449, Mika Koivuniemi of Finland in 27th with 1438 and Sean Rash in 28th position with 1437.

Qualifying will end today and top 48 qualifiers will contest the 8-game Stage 1 Finals tomorrow with women receiving 8 pin handicap. The top 24 will advance for another 8 games in Stage 2. The top 8 finishers in Stage 2 will proceed to the round-robin Stage 3 finals with the top 4 finishers advancing to the stepladder finals on Saturday, May 19.
