Singaporeans making good headway

15th January, Nagoya: Singaporeans competing in the PBA-World Bowling Tour #4 International Bowling Championships 2013 presented by DHC were making good headway in the first two qualifying squads on Monday.
Geraldine Ng was Singapore’s best women performer when she rolled 224, 251 and 266 to finished second to Malaysia’s Shalin Zulkifli, who fired the tournament’s first 300 in her opening game, with 790.

2012 Asian Schools two gold medalist, Kimberly Ooi improved her first squad of 660 with 712 to finished second in her second squad to move up to fourth. Squad 2 leader, Kim Seul-Ki of KPBA topped Squad 2 to finish second overall pushing down Geraldine into third.

Jasmine Yeong-Nathan returning after a lenghty injury, did well to register 683 in her second attempt to finish 13th overall while Joey Yeo, Kristin Quah posted 664 and 661 to take up 18th and 19th positions.

Defending champion, Cherie Tan with team-mates, Jazreel Tan and Daphne Tan are seeded and will contest the Masters finals.

 
Kristel Oh and reigning World Cup champion, Shayna Ng managed respectable 642 to tie 22nd position as Amanda Ng is at the cut of 24th position with 638. Bernice Lim and New Hui Fen has yet to find their strides with their efforts of 599 and 592.
Meanwhile, Malaysian southpaw, Alex Liew rolled the tournament’s second 300 in the second squad to take over the lead in the men’s division with 775. Squad 1 leader, Park Jong-Woo of Pusan Team, Korea slipped down to second with 733.

Singapore’s only men, Remy Ong posted 671 in his secons attempt to take up 15th position as two KPBA, Gu Yong-Jin and Jo Nam-Yi finished third and fourth with 727 and 717 respectively.

Muhd Nur Aiman of Malaysia rounded out the top 5 with 716 ahead of 2009 World Cup champion, Choi Yong-Kyu of Pusan Team, Korea and reigning World Cup champion,Muhd Syafiq Ridhwan in seix and seventh positions.

The top 36 men from the two days of qualifying rounds will join 24 men seeded qualifiers and 77 men local qualifiers for the Masters finals on January 17. The top 24 women will join 24 women seeded qualifiers and 71 women local qualifiers for the Masters finals.

 
The finalists will bowl three blocks of 3 games each on January 17 and the top 24 men and top 24 women will advance to the semi-finals for another two blocks of 3 games each on January 18.

The top 4 men and top 4 women in the foregoing 15 games total will proceed to the TV Finals Elimination round on January 19. The champions could walk away with the top prize of 6 million Japanese Yen (US$75,000) each with the first runner-up taking home 3 million each.
