Singaporean’s fine run comes to an end

22nd October, Toulon: Daphne Tan's fine run at the 46th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup came to an end after the Singaporean finished sixth in the Top 8 Round-robin matchplay rounds on Friday evening. Daphne Tan got off with a win in her opening game to earn the extra 30 pins for a win but lost the second. The Singaporean, who just turned 20 on October 14, bounched back to win her next three games to move up to fourth and 65 pins off third-placed Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of USA.

Leader, Gye Min-Young of Korea continued to lead the field and stretching her lead over England's Fiona Banks to 278 pins while Aumi Guerra of Dominican Republic was third.

Tan then lost the next two games and although she ended with a win in her final game, all she could score was a 32-game aggregate total of 6756 which put her in sixth position and the Korean advancing into the stepladder finals as top seed with 7150.   Banks took second spot with 6885 while Guerra edged the American for the final stepladder spot in third with 6840. Dorin-Ballard and Filipina, Apple Posadas finished ahead of Daphne in fourth and fifth positions.

Meanwhile Matt Miller of England finish as top seed in the men's division with 7173 follwed by 2005 champion, Michael Schmidt of Canada in second and 2006 World Championship Masters gold medalist, Biboy Rivera of the Philippines third.

The top 3 women and top 3 men will contest the stepladder finals in a best of three matchplay format on Saturday. The winner of the first match between the second and third seed will challenge for the title against the top seed.
