Singaporean settles for fifth

2nd August, Manila: 2009 Bahrain Open champion, Remy Ong of Singapore settled for fifth after crashing out in the first stepladder finals of the 12th PBAP Bevida-Storm International Classic on Sunday.   Remy Ong, who made the stepladder finals after totaling 1801 in the earlier 8-games Open division semifinals, lost to No. 4 seed, Phoemphun Yakasem of Thailand and No. 6 seed, Zatil Iman of Malaysia, 190-223-206 in the first match.

The Sngapore advanced into the semifinals after posting a record-breaking 8-game series in the third block of the preliminary qualifying round yesterday with 1867 to haul himself up from 23rd position overnight to fifth with a 24-game aggregate of 5043.

Asia Ranked No. 1, Hussain Al-Suwaidi topped the field with 5153 ahead of day 2 leader, Chester King of the Philippines in second with 5112 followed by Ong She-Na third with 5066.

Teammate, Lee Yu Wen missed the Top 24 cut finishing 26th position with 4733 just 9 pins from 24th-placed Annop Arromsaranon of Thailand and 3 pins from 25th-placed and Philippines Open champion, Fatin Syazliana of Malaysia.

Hong Kong's Wu Siu Hong went on to win his first 2009 international title after he defeated challenger, Chester King, 171-256 and 279-236 in the title match. King had won the second match against No. 2 seed, Daniel Lim of Malaysia and Phoemphun, 220(+40)-220(+27)-206 in the second match.
