Singaporean inches closer to title

22nd October, Toulon: Daphne Tan inches closer to the women's title of the 46th QubicaAMF Bowlng World Cup as the Singaporean finished sixth position in the Top 24 Round to advance to the Top 8 Round-Robin quarter-finals. Like in the earlier qualifying rounds, Daphne Tan, fortunately has a habit of soring massive games and she shot a sizzling 278 in her opening game to move into third spot. But there were two sub-standard games in the 8-game round which dropped her eventually to sixth position.

Daphne posted 1629 to add to her qualifying scores of 3360 for sixth position. Overnight leader, Gye Min-Young led from start to finish unchallenged to cruise to a comfortable pole position with 5340.

Dominican Republic's Aumi Guerra settled for second with 5189 despite recording 1747 in this round while Team USA, Carolyn Dorin-Ballard put in a much improved performance to clinch third spot with 5069.   England's Fiona Banks finished ahead of three Asians and a Latvian for fourth position with 5044. Filipina Apple Posadas, Singapore's Daphne Tan and Malaysia's Wendy Chai advance into the next round from fifth to seventh positions.

Diana Zavjalova of Latvia shot the highest 8-game series of 1794 to haul herself up from 18th overnight to take up the eighth and final spot for the Top 8 quarter-finals with 4958. 2007 World Cup champion, Ann-Maree Putney of Australia missed the cut in ninth by 37 pins.

The top 8 advanced into the Round-Robin quarter-finals over 8 games to decide the top 3 proceeding to the stepladder finals on Satuday, October 23.
