Singapore women on course for more glory

19th January, Abu Dhabi: Doubles gold medalist, Daphne Tan and Bernice Lim teamed up with Tan Yan Ling to finish second to Korea in the Women's Trios first block at the 21st Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships.  The Singapore trio totaled 1919 to place themselves in contention for the gold medal. The second trio of Teo Li Ying, Fok Ka Wai and Kristel Oh managed only a 12th place finish and will need to step up in the second block for any chance of a podium finish.

Daphne Tan, Tan Yan Ling and Bernice Lim started off with a respectable 599 in their opening game as two Korean trios occupied first and second spots with 8 pin separating them.

Indonesia's Novie Phang, Sharon Limansantoso and Putty Armein surprised the field by taking over the lead with a sizzling 711 in the second game and just 1 pin ahead of the second Korean trio.

Son Yun-Hee, Shin Bo-Hyun and Gye Min-Young ended the strongest to end the block in the lead with 1982. Daphne, Yan Ling and Bernice stormed home with 682 to take up second spot with 1919.

Japan finished third with 1894 ahead of two Malaysian trios in fourth and fifth positions respectively. The second trio of Teo Li Ying, Fok Ka Wai and Kristel Oh managed only a 12th place finish and will need to step up in the second block for any chance of a podium finish.Later in the afternoon, Muhd Nur Aiman, Syafiq Ridhwan and Aaron Kong took the Malaysian trio to the lead after the first block with 2095. Host nation, UAE ended the block strongly to take up second with 2011.

Kuwait's Doubles silver medalist, Basil Al-Anzi and Khaled Al-Dubyyan teamed up with Guangzhou Asian Games two silver medalist, Mohammed Al-Regeebah to finish third on 1965 while the favourite, Korea only managed fourth with 1934.

The two Singapore men's trios of Brandon Lee, Lim Chia Loong and Lim Chun Liang finished ahead of the first Korean trio to take up 11th position with 1851 while the second Singapore trio ended a dismal 24th position.

 

The women will resume with their second block tomorrow morning and the men in the afternoon. The 5-player Team will take place on Friday.
