Singapore women makes top bracket

2nd March, Sitra, Bahrain: 2014 Incheon Asian Games gold medalist, Jazreel Tan of Singapore made the top bracket in the overall qualifying standings of the PBA-WBT #9 13th Kingdom of Bahrain Open in fourth after the first block.

Tan got off to a cracking start with 226 and 235 in her first two games but stumbled to a lowly 170 in the third. But the 24-year-old recovered with 256 in the fourth but again faded off with 204 and 190 for 1327 total.

ABF Tour Qatar first runner-up, Khaled Al Dubyyan of Kuwait topped the squad with 1411 and led the overall standings with an average of 235.17. Newly-crowned H.H. Emir CUp 2015 champion, Tannya Roumimper of Indonesia continued her fine form to finish second overall with 1362.

Debutant, Missy Parkin of USA edged Tan by 8 pins to claimed third spot in the squad with 1335 ahead of Tan in fourth. Parkin and Tan slipped to fourth and fifth overall after Ildemaro Ruiz of Venezuela moved into third after topping Squad C with 1344.

The top 5 together with position 6 reserved for the top Bahraini qualifier will earn three byes to automatically advance to Round 5 finals.

Tan’s team-mate, Cherie Tan missed the cut in seventh position with 1310 to head qualifiers positioned 7 to 12 for two byes into Round 4 finals. Also in the second bracket was Muhamad Jaris Goh in 10th position with 1280.

2014 Milo Junior All-Stars champion, Joel Tan missed the second bracket by 7 pins to head the third bracket with 1260 in 13th position joined by Shayna Ng in 15th position with 1257.

Debutants, Brandan Tan and New Hui Fen were in the third bracket as well in 17th and 18th positions with 1246 and 1242 respectiely. Qualifiers positioned 13 to 18 will earn one bye into Round 3 finals.

Daphne Tan and Geraldine Ng were in the fourth bracket in 20th and 23rd positions with 1241 and 1237. Qualifiers position 19 to 27 together with the top 2 Bahraini qualifiers outside the top 27 in 28th and 29th and the top women qualifier in 30th position will contest the 6-games ROund 2 finals on March 6.

The top 6 finishers will advance to Round 3 joined by qualifiers positioned 13 to 18 for another 6 games pins dropped. Again the top 6 finishers will advance to Round 4 finals joined by qualifiers positioned 7 to 12 for another 6 games pins dropped.

And finally the top 6 finishers will be joined by the top 6 seeded qualifiers for a final 6-games Round 5 finals. The top 3 will proceed to the stepladder shootout finals. The top prize for the champion is US$25,000 and if he is a PBA member, he will be awarded an international PBA title.

Other Singapore national bowlers who have yet to make the cut were Jasmine Yeong-Nathan (36th), Bernice Lim (38th), Darren Ong (40th), Justin Lim (41st), Joey Yeo (44th), Javier Tan (52nd), Howard Saw (68th), Keith Saw (86th) and ALex Chong (87th).

Ten men and nine women from the national team were competing at the tournament which uses the same dressing pattern and on the same type of lanes, Switch for the 28th SEA Games in June.
