Singapore girls eying record fifth gold

13th July, Jakarta: Singapore girls are eying for their record fifth gold in as many events at the 14th Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships after Kristin Quah and Kimberly Ooi finished one-two in the Girl’s first block Masters finals on Friday.  Except for the first match in which Malaysia’s Nur Ameera Husna Aznel led, Kristin Quah of Singapore took over the running after the second match with two wins of her own. Quah won her next match before losing two consecutive mathes but still remained in the lead.

The leader went on to close out the first block with 1858 after three more wins while Ooi ended with 1692 to give Singapore a one-two finish.

Quah had missed out on winning medals in her first two events but bounced back to win the Team gold with Ooi, Joey Yeo and All Events gold medalist, Tracy See. She will be eying for her first individual gold if she can maintain her form in tomorrow’s second block.

Korea’s only finalist, Shin Hye-Ji, who trailed Quah for five games, was beaten for second by Ooi and had to settle for third spot with 1676 winning four matches.

Nur Dyana of Singapore did well to clinch fourth spot with 1661 while Joey Yeo and Tracy See took sixth and seventh positions with 1597 and 1594 respectively. SIngapore’s seventh finalist, Michelle Ng finished 11th with 1544.Meanwhile, Team gold medalist Adhiguna Widiantoro is vying for his second gold medal after the Indonesian topped the boy’s division with 1900 from six wins. All Events bronze medalist, Muhammad Aizudeen Mustaqim finished second with 1881 from six wins.

Singles gold medalist, Javier Tan finished third with 1758 from just four wins while Katsuhito Nakano of Japan and All Events gold medalist, Abdulla Ahmed of Kuwait rounded up the top 5.

Singapore’s three other finalists, Muhammad Jaris Goh won four matches to take up eighth position with 1694, Marcus Leong and Darren Ong finished tenth and 13th positions with 1658 and 1637 respectively.

Singapore led the overall medal tally with a haul of 6-3-1. Singapore Team B boys had won a silver but could not contribute to the overall count. The girls have 4-1-1 and the boys 2-2-0.

The finalists will resume with their second block of seven matches tomorrow and ending with a position round match to determine the top 3 to advance into the stepladder finals.
