Singapore girl wins Youth Under-15 title

11th April, Bangkok: Singapore's Oriana Tay Ling Ying captured the Youth Under-15 Masters title against a strong field of boys in the 34th MWA Thailand International Open at S.F. Strike Bowl on Friday morning. Singapore Sports School's Felicia Teo Siew Teng set the pace with an opening 195 in the 6-game Masters finals of the Youth Under-15 division on Friday morning, just 1 pin ahead of teammate, Oriana Tay Ling Ying in second.

A sizzling 222 by the 15-year-old Oriana moved the Singapore girl into the lead with local Dararat Panturat of Thailand taking over second spot, 18 pins adrift. A strong 208 from another Singapore Sports School youth, Keith Saw Hui-Xun saw the youngster finishing second as Oriana continued to lead at the halfway mark.

Another high game in the fifth had the lead still leading with a 39 pins cushion and although Oriana bowled a low 133 in the final game, the margin she had built up was sufficient to seal the victory with a total of 1148.   Keith Saw settled for second with 1131 to give Singapore Sports School a 1-2 finish as Dararat took third spot with 1087. Tay Kun Leong and Calista Tan Li Xuan, both from Singapore Sports School, rounded up the top 5.
