Singapore bowlers shines in qualifying

15th September, Hong Kong: Singapore national bowlers shone in the qualifying rounds of the 36th Hong Kong International Open as Shayna Ng, New Hui Fen and Geraldine Ng took up first, third and fourth positions of the Women's Open Masters table.  Singapore's Shayna Ng, New Hui Fen and Geraldine Ng dominated the early proceedings by occupying the top three positions of the Women's Open Masters qualifyng table but were denied limelight after Malaysia's Esther Cheah split the Singaporeans by snatching second spot.

Shayna was in sizzling form rolling 757 in her first attempt and then followed it up with 646 for a 6-game aggregate of 1403. Her superb effort put her firmly in pole position. New Hui Fen took second spot briefly with 732 and 653 for a total of 1385.

Geraldine Ng shot 675 and 668 for a total of 1343 to take up third and joining her teammates to earn byes into the second round Masters finals. But Ng's effort was dashed as Esther Cheah shot the tournament's first perfect game en-route to claiming second spot with 1390.

  Singapore's Cherie Tan and Jasmine Yeong-Nathan also put in a promising performance to take up eighth and ninth int he overseas pool with 1304 and 1295. Bernice Lim and Daphne Tan have yet to make the cut after only registering 1212 and 1206 respectively.Meanwhile, Singapore men were less fortunate with Eugene Low managing only 1227, Justin Lim Chun Liang 1200 and Ng Tiac Pin has yet to register two attempts. All three have yet to make the cut.

American PBA, Robert Smith put his opponent way off the pace after he posted 770 and 704 to top the table with 1474. Malaysians Aaron Kong and Chong Jun Foo finished second and third with 1460 and 1441 respectively.

The three will automatically advance into Round 2 finals as the top 3 qualifiers. World Championship Doubles silver medalist, Muhd Nur Aiman of Malaysia and Guam's Jay Leon Guerrero rounded up the top 5.

  

Three-time Hong Kong Open champion, Wu Siu Hong of Hong Kong, 2009 Singapore Open Youth champion, Rickle Kam and Wicky Yeung were the top three local qualifiers who would also advance into Round 2 finals automatically with 1455, 1416 and 1414.
