Singapore bowlers secure spots in finals
28th March, Manila: Singapore national bowlers secured their places in the finals of the 5th Euro-Med Storm International Masters Challenge led by Justin Teng, Remy Ong and Rena Teng on Wednesday afternoon at Pearl Bowling Centre.
Justin Teng was the first member of the Singapore national team to make the finals when he knocked down 279, 233 and 182 for 694 in his first series and then put in a scintillating performance to bring home lines of 257, 278 and 214 for a 749 series. Teng's two series gave him a total of 1443.
World Championship two gold medalist, Remy Ong, who jsut returned from a tournament in Greece, also made progress after chalking up 693 and 739 to take up eighth position ahead of teammates, Shaun Ng (1384) and Jason Yeong-Nathan (1377) in 22nd and 23rd positions.
Other Singapore female competing against the men and have temporarily made the finals were Sabrina Lim (26th-1363), Jazreel Tan (27th-1358), Cherie Tan (30th-1348), Evelyn CHan (32nd-1345), Jennifer Tan (34th-1334) and Jasmine Yeong-Nathan (41st-1280).
With two more days left for qualifying, other Singaporean men occupying places in the finals were Lee Yu-Wen (29th-1351), Derek Chan (39th-1288) and Carl de Vries (43rd-1242).
Meanwhile, former World Bowler of the Year, Shalin Zulkifli of Malaysia, rolled the tournament's third perfect game to move to the top of the leaderboard with 1609. The first two perfect games were scored by Purvis Granger on Day 1 of the competition.
Malaysian bowlers also put in an impressive showing when Adrian Ang rolled 1510 and 2005 Asian ranked No. 1, Alex Liew bowled 1477. Ang and Liew joined Purvis Granger, Cecilia Yap, Paeng Nepomuceno, Kim Young Pil, Markwin Tee, Wu Siu Hong, Ryan Lalisang and Kim Byeong Hak automatically for Saturday's finals.
Qualifying will end Friday, 30th March and the top 48 bowlers from the Euro-Med Storm qualifying table and the top 24 bowlers from the Bevida-Storm table will contest the masters finals on the 31st March and 1st April.
