Rookies get rare opportunity

13th January, Singapore: Several SBF national development squad members got a rare opportunity to dorn the colours of Singapore at the 21st Asian Tenpin Bowling Championships which will kick off next week in Abu Dhabi.   SingaporeBowling made the bold move to send a relatively new team to the Asian Championships primarily to offer the national development squad this rare opportunity to represent the nation in the fist official tournament of the year.

Except for Bernice Lim and Daphne Tan, who had represented the country in the 2009 World Women's Championship and AMF World Cup respectively, Teo Li Ying, Kristel Oh, Fok Ka Wai and Tan Yan Ling will be making their debut.

Bernice has won the Asian Youth Championship Team gold in Kuwait in January last year and she will be the most experience women in the team. The selection has more than made up for the disappointment after being left out in the Guangzhou Asian Games last year.

In the men's team, Justin Lim Chun Liang and Eugene Low has the most exposure when it comes to official tournaments. Both featured in the World Men's Championship in Munich and the last Asian Championship respectively.

Brandon Lee has represented Singapore at the inaugural Asian Youth Games in Singapore and together with Chun Liang and Eugene, the trio will lead their three other team-mates to carry the team forward.

Official practice is schedule for Sunday, January 16 at Khalifa Bowling Centre and competition will kick off with the Singles event on Monday, January 17. Five events - Singles, Doubles, Trios, Team of Five and Masters will be contested over the week long championship.
