Remy, Shaun finishes eighth and thirteen

24th November, Belfast: Singapore's top contender, Remy Ong only managed to finish eighth while Shaun Ng 13th in the opening Men's Singles event of the IV Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championship at Ice Bowl on Monday. After missing the previous championship in Melbourne in 2006, Singapore returned to the championship with Remy Ong and Shaun Ng in the men's division. Ong had a decent start with 233 to take up fifth in the opening game.

The Singaporean managed to move up one notch after 215 and 234 in the second and third games but a poor 187 dropped Remy down to sixth after the fourth game. Despite bounching back with 257 and 227, others were shooting games above 260.

Ong ended the six-games Singles with 1348 to finish eighth. Team-mate, Shaun Ng did not get into his strides with two poor opening games although he picked up his pace in the latter stage. Ng finished 13th with 1268.   Muhd Nur Aiman smashed the six-game record with 1539 and set a new high game record of 299 in his fourth game to win Malaysia's first gold medal. Glen Loader of Australia finished with two strong games of 279 and 278 to clinch the silver medal with 1402.

Canada's Mark Buffa claimed the bronze medal with 1395 ahead of his team-mate, Joe Ciach missing the podium to finish fourth with 1382. Jennifer Tan and Jazreel Tan will will contest the Women's Singles after lane dressing and the men will resume tomorrow with the Doubles.
