On course for next round

2nd December, Johannesburg: Singapore national bowler, Cherie Tan stayed on course for the next round after the SEA Games multiple medalist posted the second highest 5-game series in the second block at the 47th QubicaAMF Bowling World Cup on Thursday evening.  Armed with a fabulous 1094 in the first series, Cherie Tan rolled 217, 243, 209, 279 and 248 for a 1196 second block series taking her 10-game tally to 2290. Reigning champion, Aumi Guerra rolled the highest 5-game series of 1272 to extend her lead to 127 pins with 2417.

2006 World Cup champion, Diandra Asbaty of United States slipped down to third with 2256 after posting 1162 in her second block.

In the earlier women's squad, Filipina Liza Clutario took over the lead with 2253 from overnight leader, Mercedes Perez de la Losa of Argentina, who managed only 966 for a 10-game aggregate of 2123.

The top 3 finishers in this squad claimed the top 3 positions in the overall standings. Earlier squad leader, Liza Clutario finished fourth with 2253 while Finland's Krista Pollanen rounded up the top 5 with 2220.

  

Squad 2 first block leader, Mercedes Parez de la Losa of Argentina finished sixth position with 2123 and Ireland's Hannah Cullen took seventh position with 2119.

Teresa Oberkerch of Austria occupied the current 24th position with 1990, an average of 199.00. The women will returned for their third block tomorrow morning while the men will bowl theirs in the afternoon and evening.

Meanwhile, first perfect gamer, Jason Belmonte of Australia remained in the lead of the men's division with 2535 after the second block. Tommy Jones of United States, who shot the tournament's second 300 and led Squad 1, finished second with 2455.

Finland's Kimmo Lethonen finished third overall with 2395 followed by South Africa's Francis Louw and last year's second runner-up, Biboy Rivera of Philippines in fourth and fifth positions.

Debutant, Alexander Tan of Singapore, finished 43rd position with 2012 in a field of 81. Tan shot 1018 in the first block and 994 in the second five games.

The bowlers will resume with their third block of 5 games on Saturday and the final 5 games on Sunday before the field will be cut to 24 for another 8 games on Monday, December 4.
