Nine out of ten women in the finals

23rd July, Jakarta: Nine out of the ten Singapore women competing at the 9th Indonesia International Open have made the Women's Open Masters finals with Shayna Ng, Bernice Lim and New Hui Fen occupying the top 3 spots.  Shayna Ng, who had topped the table with 1433 since Wednesday with New Hui Fen and Jasmine Yeong-Nathan in second and third. An improvement from Bernice Lim saw the 2007 Indonesia Open champion taking over second spot with 1380.

Hui Fen settled for third and looked firm to keep the place and earned the Round 1 bye. Jasmine Yeong-Nathan, who was fourth, slipped down to fifth after Malaysia's Wendy Chai pipped her by 6 pins for fourth.

Cherie Tan, Jazreel Tan and Geraldine Ng finished sixth, eighth and ninth making Singapore women taking up seven places out of the 10 in the overseas pool.

Former national champion, Fok Ka Wai and Amanda Ng also made the cut for the finals first and second in the mixed pool with 1298 and 1291 completing the nine places out of 10 for Singapore.

  Only Kristel Oh has yet to make the cut and eighth in the reserves pool with 1231. She has 625 and 606 series and any improvement of 640 series or more would put her in the finals.Over in the men's division, Benjamin Lim made the cut albeit third in the mixed pool while Jason Yeong-Nathan shot 715 to give himeself a 6-game total of 1371 for eighth in the mixed pool.

Javarn Li, Ng Chiew Pang, Basil Low and Ng Tiac Pin has yet to get near the 150-over scoreline in order to make the cut. With four more squad left before qualifying round ending late tonight, there are still chances for the Singapore men.

Ex-national Isaac Russell of Malaysia turned in an astonishing 784 series to take his tally to a record-breaking 1545 and moved into the lead of the overseas pool. Overnight leader, Yannaphon Larpapharat settled for second with 1487.

Early leader, Wu Siu Hong slipped down to third with 1461 while Malaysia's Zulmazran Zulkifli has to contest the Round 1 finals after having been knocked out of the top 3 automatic qualification spots.

  The 30 men qualifiers and the 24 women qualifiers will bowl 10 games in Round 1 finals tomorrow. The top 18 men and top 15 women will advance into Round 2 finals together with the 6 seeded (3 local, 3 overseas) qualifiers for another 10 games in Round 2.
