Nicole Wong does well in first block

14th November, Jakarta: National Development squad member, Nicole Wong did well in the Women's Open Masters first block of the 1st Ancol Open Bowling Championship on Friday afternoon with a fourth place finish. Nicole Wong did not have a good start in her opening game and only managed 187 but the lef-hander picked up her pace to reel in 191, 221, 202 and 210 to stay close to the leaders. However, two more low games of 182 and 178 dropped her down the field.

Fortunately, she bounched back with a stronger 214 to end the block with 1585. Korea's Joung Myo-Boub took pole with 1660, 57 pins ahead of current Asian Ranked No. 1, Chan Shuk Han in second with 1603.

"I lost a bit of concentration when I bowled the two low games in the sixth and seventh games," said Nicole, who is competing in Jakarta for the first time. "My target is to make the top 6 so I'll have to put in extra effort and concentration in the second block tomorrow."   Chan's compatriot, Vanessa Fung finished third with 1588, just 3 pins ahead of Nicole in fourth. Filipina Liza Del Rosario rounded up the top 5 with 1572. Youth Girls Under-23 first runnerup, Gina Lim only managed a 13th place finish.

The final Singapore women in the finals was Geraldine Ng, who could not get into her usual stride to end up in 23rd position in a field of 24 finalists.

The women will resume with Saturday's second block of 8 games during which the top 6 will advance to the stepladder finals. The top 16 Asians will also make the cut for the final leg of the ABF Tour which will be held on Sunday.
