Maiden titles for two youths
2nd August, Singapore: SBF’s National Youth Development Program – Milo-SBF Centre of Excellence Circuit kicked off on 2nd August 2008 at Orchid Bowl @ SAFRA Yishun with bowlers from the 3 training centres coming together to pit their skills among each other.
Wong Yi Kuan, 12 clinched the 14 & under title with a 4-game total of 779 while Tan Chng Kiat, 17 outclassed the field to win the 20 & under division ahead of Daryl Ong Wei Siang and Marc Wee Ming Lei in second and third spots respectively.
Bowlers competed in two categories: the 14 and under category and the 20 and under category. 12-year-old Wong Yi Kuan emerged champion in the 14 & under category at the end of 4 games with lines of 201, 196, 205 and 177 for a total of 779. Royvin Ho and Ng Kai Xiang bowled a similar total of 760 but the former came in second based on a higher fnal game of 235 compared with Ng’s 225.
In the 20 & under category, Tan Chng Kiat, who was bowling with a minus 20 pinfalls based on the handicap system, left his opponents trailing in his wake with an impressive total of 916 after deduction.
The 17-year-old outclassed his opponents with games of 209, 257, 245 and 225. Coming in a distant second was Daryl Ong with a 809 total. Marc Wee Ming Lei, who also had 20 pinfalls deducted, took the third spot with a 778 total after deduction.
The circuit moves to Westwood Bowl at Civil Service Club Bukit Batok on 17th August 2008 before heading to Orchid Bowl @ SAFRA Tampines on 7th September 2008.
The top 6 boys and top 2 girls in the 14 and under category and the top 4 boys and top girl of the 20 and under category each week will qualify for the masters finals at Superbowl SAFRA Mount Faber on 14th September 2008.
