Lim earns No. 2 seed for stepladder finals

25th May, Las Vegas: Two-time national champion, Bernice Lim earned No. 2 seed for Thursday’s TV stepladder finals of the PWBA USBC Queens 2016 after winning her third and fourth double-elimination rounds while New Hui Fen was eliminated in her fourth round.

Lim had on Tuesday defeated Daria Pajak of Poland 678-623 in her opening match of the double-elimination round then went on to trash Malaysia’s Syazwani Sahar, 742-649 in the second match. The 2015 SEA Games Trios gold medalist then advanced further when she beat Brenda Pradilla of Mansfield, TX, USA with a comprehensive 748-632 in her third match.

In Wednesday’s round, Lim edged 2013 USBC Queens champion, Diana Zavjalova of Latvia in her fourth match before sailing past three-time Singapore Open champion and newly-crowned 2016 Malaysian Open champion, Sin Li Jane of Malaysia, 741-664 for a chance to make the TV finals as top seed.

Lim’s fine run came to an end when she lost to Sandra Andersson of Sweden, 646-712 but still advance to the TV finals as No. 2 seed.

Meanwhile, New Hui Fen thumped 2012 USBC Queens champion, Diandra Asbaty of Chicago, IL, USA, 701-571 in her opening match on Tuesday then ousted Siti Safiyah Amirah of Malaysia, 642-595 in the second match.

Hui Fen also defeated Rocio Resprepo of Louisville, OH, USA, 704-657 in the third match before being eliminated by top seed, Birgit Proppler of Germany, 628-687 in the fourth match. In the loser’s elimination bracket, Hui Fen beat Linday Boomershire of Perry, UT, USA, 679-615 but crashed out after going down to Stefanie Johnson of Texas, USA, 607-636 in her next match.

The first stepladder match will be between Birgit Poppler and Sin Li Jane and the winner will face No. 3 seed and 2016 H.H. Emir Cup champion, Danielle McEwan of Stony Point, NY, USA in the second match. The winner of the second match will meet Lim in the third match.

Winner of the third match will have a crack at the title against the top seed, Sandra Andersson and a chance to pocket the top prize of US$20,000. The first runner-up will take home US$10,000, second runner-up US$6,000, third and fourth runner-up, US$5,000 and US$4,000.
