Good progress by Singapore youths

9th October, Taipei: Singapore youths competing in the 9th Chinese Taipei International Open at Great World Bowling Centre were making good progress as Geraldine Ng continued to top the Ladies' Open division.  Overnight leader, Mark Wong of Singapore, who posted an impressive 971, lost the lead of the Men's Open Masters qualifying table after Malaysia's Aaron Kong fired 1007 to become the new leader.

Benjamin Lim, who topped the recent Singapore Open Masters qualifying, did well to post 882 to finish sixth in the overseas table behind Zulmazran Zulkifli, Alex Liew and Daniel Lim of Malaysia.

Another Singapore youngster, Gregory Gan, who was also the overnight leader in the Youth division table, knocked down 861 to take up ninth spot and looked set to feature in the finals this Friday. Chiam Yew Beng finished 13th with 832 and needs to improve to assure himself a place in the finals.

Geraldine Ng maintained her pole position in the Ladies' Open division with 964 scored yesterday. The Singapore team was delayed for 4 hours due to heavy storm caused by Typhoon Krosa and just missing Taiwan and barrelling toward China.

Indonesia Open champion and ABF Tour Hong Kong leg runner-up, Bernice Lim put up an impressive show to post 867 and taking up sixth in the overseas pool with Teo Li Ying and Singapore Open Youth Grl champion, Gina Lim in seventh and eighth spots.

Shayna Ng's 780 which put her 11th in the table, might not be good enough to earn her a place in the finals and she has set herself to improve on that score to make the cut. Chen Kuan-Ting of Chinese Taipei remained top of the local pool with 892.

Qualifying will end tomorrow (October 11) and the first block Open Masters finals will be staged on October 12 with the second block the following day. The top 6 will make the cut for the stepladder finals.
