Bowling legend awarded Coach of the Year

3rd May, Singapore: National Head Coach - Henry Tan, 67 had been named Coach of the Year Award in the Singapore National Olympic Council Sports Awards 2010. Henry Tan was last named Coach of the Year in 1983 and was also Sportsman of the Year in 1970 and 1975.

Coach Henry also received the SBF Commendation Award in January this year in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the local bowling fraternity.

Coach Henry Tan started his bowling career in the 1960s in representing and winning medals for Singapore in the various bowling championships.

Past contributions include finishing runner-up at the World Cup in 1970 and a silver medal in the men’s doubles event at the 1975 FIQ World Championships where he had set a then-world record high game of 298.

Coach Henry joined SingaporeBowling as one of our National Head Coaches in 2006. Since then, he had continued to impart his knowledge to our team and was instrumental in the bowling success in the 1st Asian Youth Games Singapore 2009 where the bowling team secured a total of 8 medals for Singapore, which includes the first and last gold medal for Singapore.

Coach Henry also received the SBF Commendation Award in January this year in recognition for his outstanding contribution to the local bowling fraternity.

Apart from the Coach of the Year award, SingaporeBowling was also accorded 5 Meritorious Awards this year, namely:

  • Meritorious Award (Individual): Basil Low
  • Meritorious Award (Individual): New Hui Fen
  • Meritorious Award (Individual): Remy Ong
  • Meritorious Award (Team Event): Girls Doubles Team - New Hui Fen & Krishna Darshini
  • Meritorious Award (Team Event): Women’s Team - Geraldine Ng, Bernice Lim, Cherie Tan, Jasmine Yeong-Nathan, Shayna Ng and Jazreel Tan
