Asian Games 2014 press conference

5th September, Singapore: SingaporeBowling held its 17th Asian Games Incheon press conference on Friday to announce and introduce the team bound for Korea in two weeks’ time led by Head Coach, Remy Ong.

Joining Ong are fellow ex-internationals turned National Assistant coaches, Clara Lau, Jason Yeong-Nathan and Helmi Chew. Leading the men’s team is VI Commonwealth Tenpin Bowling Championships Doubles gold medalist, Muhammad Jaris Goh and Javier Tan.

The pair will be joined by Keith Saw, Ng Chiew Pang, Justin Lim Chia Loong and Joel Tan. All the men team are rookies to the games and will look to their Head Coach for inspiration and guidance. Although the men’s team may be young but they do not lack any appetite in their quest for glory.

The women’s team is a well-polished team having done well in numerous official games and championships. They will be led by 2012 AMF World Cup champion, Shayna Ng and 2011 SEA Games triple gold medalist, Cherie Tan.

 

Joining the pair will be seasoned campaigner and four-time Collegiate Bowler of the Year, Jazreel Tan with 2013 Asian Indoor Games Doubles and Singles gold medalist, Daphne Tan and 16th Asian Games Guangzhou Singles bronze medalist, New Hui Fen. 2013 Malaysian Open second runner-up and rookie, Joey Yeo made up the sixth member.

The women’s team are ready for the challenges of the highest order in the Asian Games series especially having won the one gold, three silver and one bronze medal at the 16th Asian Games Guangzhou 2010.

Head coach, Ong and his assistant, Jason are no stranger to the games after having won the Men’s Doubles silver medal. And this time, the pair will be wearing the coaches’ cap to share their knowledge and experience with the Asiad-bound keglers.

Speaking at the press conference, Mrs Jessie Phua, President of SingaporeBowling and Singapore contingent Chef-de-Mission said, “We’re there to win, do our best and if that best brings along a medal, that’s Fantastic!”

The team is now at the final lap of their preparation programme which included training under simulated competiton environment.
