Singapore girl tops qualifying table

18th December, K.Lumpur: National bowler, Daphne Tan put up an impressive performance to top the Girl's Open overseas qualifying table of the 8th Milo International Junior All Stars Bowling Championship underway at Pyramid Mega Lanes.

The 17-year-old Daphne posted a 3-game score of 685 and took up sixth overall with Geralding Ng, third in the overseas pool with 631 whilst Gregory Gan of Singapore, took pole in the Boy's Open overseas table.

Returning from her debut at the recent SEA Games in Bangkok empty handed, Daphne Tan set her sights on doing well at the junior meet after she posted and impressive 685 and averaging 228 to take up pole position in the Grl's Open overseas qualifying leaderboard.

Daphne, who also debuted in the 43rd AMF Bowling World Cup in St. Petersburg, Russia a month ago, did herself proud by making the Top 24 quaterfinals but ended her campaign in 14th position missing the Top 8 cut.

Teammates, Geralding Ng finished third in the same pool with 631 as Fok Ka Wai of Singapore Sports School and Cherie Tan took up seventh and eighth with 579 and 566 respectively. Malaysia's Zandra Aziela claimed top spot with 716.

Meanwhile, ex-national youth, Gregory Gan and Jin Lau occupied the top 2 spots in the Boy's Open overseas pool with equally impressive 764 and 708 scores respectively. Jonathan Lim Zi Xiang and Asian Intercity Singles gold medalist, Mark Wong finished in fourth and fifth with 699 and 693.

Malaysian national bowlers dominated the local pool as Jonthan Lim, Asian Schools Singles gold medalist, Zaid Izlan and national youth, Rodson Tong occupied the top 3 positions with 771, 748 and 741 respectively.

Qualifying continues through to Friday, December 21 and the Masters finals for the Under-12 will be staged on Thursday, the Under-15 and Graded divisions on Friday whilst the Open divisions on Saturday, December 22.Photos by Terence Yaw.
